Scary Stories to tell in the dark Illustrations 1981 vs 2011 reprints.

I fucking love Brett Helquist, but the original art was ten times more horrifying.

It’s really not fair to compare, really, ‘cause Gammell’s art was just so fucking perfect and terrifying.

Why??? What? Why???

I mean, I understand HAVING to redo the art in some classic children’s books because the subject material features things like spanking or other things deemed unacceptable by baby-wombers (*tm)  
But as far as I know the stories aren’t changed at all.

I wouldn’t be opposed to NEW stories using this artist, but this is just disrespectful. Horror art never needs to be “Brought up to speed”, Made “more accessible” or “Edgy”. It’s virtually timeless. Even wood cuts still horrify people.

Gammell’s work is a national treasure and shouldn’t be swept under the carpet like this.
It’s just… Wrong.

well now this means that the originals are gonna be worth some money. oh and the new ones are crap.
